WHAT IS DOMICILIARY CARE?

Domiciliary care is designed to assist you with help and support for a variety of daily tasks and needs within your own home. For example, carrying out food shopping, vacuuming, clothes washing, personal care, dressing and/or preparing for bed, bathing, cooking and food preparation, taking medication, exercise plus much more.

As domiciliary care focuses on regular, short periods of assistance, a typical call or visit may only last 30 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on your requirements. You may opt for several calls throughout the day or one call to combine all tasks, but whichever option suits you best the main advantage of domiciliary care is that it provides great comfort and peace of mind knowing that help is always close at hand.

WHAT IS LIVE-IN CARE?

Live-in care is a particular care package which supports you in your home for 24 hours a day. It can be provided either short-term or long-term depending on your requirements, and offers an effective alternative to moving into residential care, enabling you to remain in your own home with the comfort of knowing a career is on-hand at all times.

You may wish to receive live-in care if you are recovering from an operation which affects your mobility for a period of weeks or months; after which you may feel confident enough to reduce your level of support. Alternatively, live-in care can be arranged for ongoing complex requirements such as dementia, palliative care or physical/mental disability.

The obvious advantage to live-in care is that you remain in your own home. The care you receive is tailored around your specific needs, and can include the following:

  • Help with housework and household chores

  • Personal care such as bathing and changing clothes

  • Shopping

  • Going out for exercise or visits

  • Cooking and planning meals

  • Taking medication

WHAT IS SUPPORTED LIVING?

Supported living is a service designed to help individuals live independently to the maximum of their ability even though they may require help and support in some aspects of their daily lives. For example, individuals with learning disabilities or mental health challenges, or those recovering addiction or long-term injuries.

Supported living can enable individuals to retain a great deal of control over their personal affairs, decisions and finances, while at the same time providing physical and emotional support where needed. It is a valuable package of care which focuses on empowering the individual while at the same time keeping the close ties of support along the way.

WHAT IS COMPLEX CARE SUPPORT?

As the name suggests, complex care support is a specialised package of care for those affected by a serious or long-term health condition. For example, individuals requiring complex care may have severely reduced mobility and/or mental capacity, or they may require regular medical procedures or treatment; they may even be entering a phase of palliative care which requires increasing levels of support and assistance. Regardless of the individual’s needs however, the focus of the support remains the same: to enable the individual to live as fulfilling and rewarding a life as possible, while simultaneously placing their wishes at the heart of their care and daily routines.
